The JBC annual Picnic was held in Shorewood this year at Four Seasons Park. We had over 70 members, Family and Friends attend and we had a wonderful spread of food to enjoy. We all helped Russ celebrate his 90th Birthday by singing Happy Birthday to Russ (Badly I would add, JBC members are better cyclists then singers!) and sharing his birthday cake. HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUSS
This year’s Weenie Ride in Yorkville was well attended even though the temperatures were in the 90’s and the humidity made it feel like we were at the swimming pool everyone had fun.
Another great 4th of July ride – kudos to all the volunteers who helped out.
Once again we received many compliments from the riders on how well the event is staffed, how friendly the volunteers are, how well the route is marked, and how awesome the rest stops are. Also received another compliment from an event organizer on how many volunteers we have at the rest stops.
The Joliet Bicycle Club has a great group of dedicated club members that make this event possible.
Record number of riders this year – just over 1,100. Renee ran registration this year like a “BOSS”, and all went well.

Ashley Montgomery is a young lady who lives in the Kankakee area and has been battling cancer for most of her life and this has left Ashley physically unable to ride a standard bicycle.
The Joliet Bicycle Club proudly presented Ashley with a brand new BRIGHT GREEN trike on Tuesday May 3rd 2016 at Tern of the Wheel bicycle shop in Bradley, IL. Diane Walsh a JBC member who proposed the idea to the club said “The trike was a great opportunity for her to be able to get out in the fresh air and sunshine, enable her do something we all know is fun and exhilarating, and participate in activities with her friends and family. These are things that she has been unable to do for all of these years, during treatments, some at St Jude, for extended periods of time”.
Steve Linneman owner of Tern of the Wheel bicycle shop worked with JBC in fitting the trike to Ashley, making sure the proper accessories were installed and diligently work to keep the costs with in JBC’s budget. Tern of the Wheel bicycle shop is a regular stop for many JBC members in keeping their bicycles in tip top shape for those many miles they ride each year. Steve Linneman also treated us to a tour of the shop, a private viewing of some of his special bikes, and we all received a warm welcome from the Tern of the Wheel dogs. A wonderful trio of K9’s that were very friendly, ever ready to gobble up any treat that were available, and were particularly well trained at lounging on the leather sofa in the shop!
A group of JBC members, Ashley’s family, Lisa Gibbons (Diane and Jim’s daughter) and the crew at Tern of the Wheel were in attendance for the presentation of her new BRIGHT GREEN Trike to Ashley.
Thanks to all the JBC members and the crew at Tern of the Wheel that made this donation possible.
All in all a great day!

JBC again conducted another “Bicycle Maintenance Clinic“! We had a great turnout of about 20 people at Steve’s workshop in Channahon, and covered a wide range of topics and questions. As usual there was plenty of great food created by many of the JBC “foodies”.
Good food- Great members-Lots of Fun!
Thank you to everyone who could attend and participate, and a great BIG thanks to our fabulous hosts Steve & Sherry.
Ok it was a bit chilly at the start & seamed even colder for the return trip due to the cross headwind, but we had 15 hardy riders. A grand total of 370 miles ridden for 36 donuts (10.277 miles per donut).
2016 JBC CHILI / BOWL RECAP
JBC had our annual Chili Bowl at Channahon Lanes on February 20th 2016.
A fun, well attended JBC Social kickoff. 52 JBC members, family & friends. 14 pots of chili & soup, great salads & “wow” deserts! 21 bowlers – top male pin killer Tony J & top female Pam L.
The FOOD AWARDS went: Top dessert- Kathy T, Top salad- Carla W & Top Chili / Soup got a little crazy with a three way tie that took 4 tie breakers to crown the winner- Bernie A, 2nd- Ingrid N & 3rd- David K.
I would like to shout out a special thanks to Jackie & Bill K for helping with the set up and all that helped with the clean up.
Finally KUDO’s to David K and his work on the 2016 JBC KIT, “Super Sharp Design” & Dave adjusting the color option per the request of members. It is apparent the new kit is a hit looking at the size of the first order.
Thanks JBC, jeanie & dominick
